Preventive Care & Screenings
Preventive care helps you find health problems early, while they are easier to treat. Our family medicine team keeps your screenings, labs and vaccines on track in one office.

Preventive Care That Catches Problems Early
Many serious conditions, like high blood pressure, high cholesterol and type 2 diabetes, cause no symptoms at first. Preventive care looks for them before they cause harm. Your provider chooses screenings based on your age, sex, family history and current health.
We handle most of this work on-site. Lab draws, Pap smears, EKGs and routine screenings are done in our St. Petersburg office, so your results stay in one chart and your provider can act on them quickly.
- Screenings matched to your age and health history
- Lab draws, Pap smears and EKGs done on-site
- Routine adult vaccines, travel shots and seasonal protection
- One chart, so every result is reviewed together
Who It Helps
Preventive care is for every adult, not just people who feel sick. It matters most when risk factors run in your family.
- Adults who have not had a checkup in a while
- A family history of heart disease or diabetes
- Borderline blood pressure or cholesterol readings
- Women due for a Pap smear
- Medicare and older patients keeping screenings current
- Travelers who need immunizations
What Preventive Care Includes
These are the parts of preventive care our office handles in-house.
Screening Labs
Blood work for cholesterol, blood sugar, thyroid and other markers is drawn during your visit. You skip the separate trip to an outside lab, and your provider reviews the results with you.
Heart Screening
Blood pressure checks and in-office EKGs help spot heart risks early. If something looks off, we plan the next step with you right away.
Pap Smears
Cervical cancer screening is done in our office as part of routine care. Your provider will tell you how often you need one based on your age and history.
Vaccinations and Immunizations
We keep routine adult vaccines, travel immunizations and seasonal protection current as a normal part of your care. Your record shows what you have had and what is due.
Risk Review
Your provider looks at your weight, habits and family history to see where your risks are. You leave knowing which screenings come next and why.

Frequently Asked Questions
What counts as a preventive care visit?
A preventive visit focuses on staying healthy, not treating a current illness. It usually includes a health review, vitals, age-based screenings, labs and vaccines. If you bring up a new problem, your provider can address it too.
Are screenings part of preventive care?
Yes. Screenings like cholesterol and blood sugar tests, Pap smears and blood pressure checks are a core part of preventive care. They look for problems before you notice symptoms.
Can I get my screening labs done at the same visit?
Yes. We draw labs in our office, so most screening blood work happens during your appointment. Results go into the same chart your provider uses.
Do you accept insurance for preventive care?
We accept most major insurance plans and their smaller affiliated plans. Call (727) 322-4227 and our front desk will verify your coverage before your visit.
Can I be seen in Spanish?
Yes. Our services are available in English and Spanish, and Dr. Kathryn Syed is a bilingual family medicine physician.
